What modifications for exceptional students do you see?

In a regular education classroom, it is very important for the teacher to work with students who need some extra help in their class. The teacher and student relationship is very important in this situation to communicate between the two what will work best to make the student most successful.  When neccesary, bring the parents in and meet with them also so you can all share your concerns and ideas and come together on a plan to get the most out of the class.

Being the teacher you have to be willing to give the student some extra "privileges" in the class.  In some situations allowing the student extra time on homework may be something you have to change.  There is also things in your actual classroom that you can do.  Move their desk by yours so they feel comfort from being near you, and put them by someone who wont distract them.  Giving them a test after school orally might be a great way to help them on tests.  Letting the student even go into the hallway to read in silence might help them to focus.

It is simple things that you can do to make the learning experience positive for everyone.  Showing that you care can go a long way with a student who doesn't have motivation to try in the class.  Being open and good at communicating with one another is a sure way to move forward together instead of standing still, or even moving backwards.
